WHEN I FIRST STARTED PHOTOGRAPHING ATHLETES WHO MOVED AT HIGH SPEED, THE PHOTOGRAPH OF THE ‘GREY CARD’, USED TO CALIBRATE COLOUR TEMPERATURE, HAD TO TAKE ON A SECOND PURPOSE, THAT OF TESTING THE SPEED OF THE FLASH DURATION FROM OUR LIGHTING.
IN ORDER TO DO THIS, THE ASSISTANT HOLDING THE GREY CARD TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED, HAD TO BE PERFORMING AN ACTION. THE ACTION GREY CARD WAS BORN.
THIS DEVELOPED QUITE QUICKLY INTO AN ACT OF SELF EXPRESSION BY MY NUMEROUS ASSISTANTS, FOR REASONS BEST KNOWN TO THEMSELVES...
